Ohla – The best tapas bar in Kuala Lumpur

When? December 2014.

What is it? A modern Spanish gastrobar in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

Who’s behind it? Toni Valero (executive head chef) is the dynamic 27-year-old chef who mans the fort. With experience at El Celler De Can Roca and Mugaritz (San Pellegrino’s number two and six restaurants in the world respectively), he brings a fresh eye and a deft hand to the kitchen.

Gustavo Arriaga is the sommelier in charge of the Spanish wine list. In the industry for over two decades, the Peruvian has worked in Michelin-starred institutions in the likes of Barcelona, Pamplona and Valencia including Roca Moo and the renowned Speakeasy by Dry Martini.

Size? 28-seater restaurant with bar seating and dining area.

What’s on the menu? The food is reflective of Toni’s modern, unpretentious ways with Spanish gastronomy. Signatures include Mediterranean black rice with langoustine, pan-fried foie gras with 62º egg and truffled mash potato, grilled scallop with Iberico pork belly, and Spanish suckling lamb with rosemary-infused milk.

Bookings? They take reservations with a maximum of 12 per session. They also host private events and functions for larger groups.
